Munir Kotadia, Editor
Munir started working with ZDNet Australia in October 2004 after relocating from CBS Interactive's UK subsidiary.
Munir has been interested in technology since he got a Commodore 64 in the early 80s. That inspired his passion for technology and all things electronic. He later studied computer science and learned to program in BASIC, Pascal and Modula-2 before going on to learn about HTML and Web-based technologies.
Mun’s diverse background in the technology sector ensures that he is able to apply this experience of the market place to de-mystify user and enterprise security concerns.
From 1996, he became part of a small team that created [.tv], the UK’s first television channel dedicated to computers and technology with SKY News. He produced television programs covering a broad range of consumer and SOHO issues including a future technology guide for gadgets, an Internet users guide, a hardware buyers guide and a technical trouble shooting program called “Chips with Everything”.
Mun first became involved with online publishing in 1998 when he joined ZDNet UK and later moved into print publishing as Chief Reporter for IT Week, part of ZDNet UK, a weekly trade newspaper targeted at Enterprise IT managers. Following this, he wrote in a freelance capacity for the IT and Technology industries. He later moved back into online publishing as Senior News Reporter for ZDNet UK.
With his wealth of experience, he has reported for Sky News and has made guest appearances on Radio 5 Live (UK) and the BBC World Service and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.
Munir was recognised as Best Technology Columnist at the 5th Annual Sun Microsystems IT Journalism Awards 2007. In the same year he was named Best News Journalist at the Consensus IT Writers Awards.
Renai LeMay , News Editor
Despite the French origins of his name, Renai LeMay is a fifth-generation Australian originally hailing from Broken Hill.
After an aborted attempt to study IT at university and several years experience as a systems administrator, he settled down half a decade ago to the serious business of reporting on the Australian IT industry.
In this role he has worked as a prolific and award-winning writer for some of Australia's leading technology publications. After a stint as one of The Australian Financial Review's main technology reporters that also saw him contribute heavily to MIS Magazine, he recently returned to CBS Interactive to take on the news editor role at ZDNet Australia.
Liam Tung, Senior Journalist
Liam joined ZDNet Australia as a senior journalist in July 2007. Prior to ZDNet Australia, Liam was the editor at Image & Data Manager Magazine (2005 – 2007), where he covered content management technologies for the print and online arms of the publication. Liam’s specialist areas of expertise include Web content management, document and records management, outsourcing and data storage.
Prior to becoming a journalist, Liam completed a Bachelor of Arts (Media & Cultural Studies) at Macquarie University. He has also worked in marketing for News Limited’s Sunday Magazine.
Outside of the nine to five workday, Liam enjoys music, travel, cooking, sports and the great outdoors.
Alex Serpo, Reviews Editor
Alex Serpo started at ZDNet Australia in 2007 and is currently Reviews Editor. His IT related areas of interest include emerging technologies, green IT, open-source software and internet publishing and media.
Being born in the eighties meant that as he grew up, the Internet grew up with him. At university he majored in chemistry, along with English and international politics. A keen journalist, Alex specialises in scientific and technical writing, but also enjoys some political journalism from time to time.
He has previously written for titles including The Australian Financial Review and Fast Thinking Magazine. He counts his favourite publications as New Scientist, The Guardian and ZDNet Australia.
Suzanne Tindal, Journalist
Fresh from graduating, Suzanne Tindal enters the ZDNet Australia team with a passion for cutting edge innovations that will make life more manageable. No stranger to technology, Suzanne has completed a Masters in Aerospace Engineering and acutely remembers, the day her parents finally decided to purchase a computer. One of the old IBM PCs, of course!
Suzanne prides herself on being a particularly voracious reader, who often has to resort to cut price books to assuage her appetite. She has tried her hand at occasionally writing fantasy, but the results are not yet ready for publication.
Irene Mickaiel, Sub Editor
Irene joined CBS Interactive Australia in April 2008 as chief sub-editor. Before joining the company she worked for two years at IDG as Online Production Manager across the consumer and small business division.
Today she oversees sub-editing and production for sites such as CNET.com.au, ZDNet.com.au, GameSpot.com.au, Builder AU, and BNET Australia. Before Irene became hooked on IT media, she worked on illustrated reference, lifestyle and education books.
When Irene's not working, she's always trying to find new things to take up her time. Some of her interests include photography, bushwalking, travelling, reading, computer games and trying her hand at adventure sports.
